Hello,

Hope all is well and everyone had a great and safe Halloween. We live in the country and very seldom get any trick or treaters as most of the kids go to our town where they walk from house to house. This year I did have three show up so that was a treat for me. Here's my grandson in his little bumble bee costume. He was so cute "buzzing" around everywhere. LOL.

Over the weekend I framed up this little punch needle that I had finished awhile back. It was a freebie pattern from Betty @ http://primitivebettys.blogspot.com/. This was my first needle punch and I enjoyed it but I still have alot to learn.

I also finished up this cross stitch sampler and framed it in an old frame from a home interiors picture that I no longer used. This was a preprinted panel that I started along time ago.

And here's my pegboard I painted up and my hubby hung up for me in my sewing room.

It's working out great and it's so handy to have my tools right beside my sewing table.

We'll I need to get ready to go to the art museum with my daughter for a school project she is doing. I've never been so this will be a new experience for me. I also want to remind everyone to keep Leslie @ http://sweets-mycountryhome.blogspot.com/and her son and the rest of her family in our thoughts and prayers and wish Shane a speedy recovery from surgery.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

Good Morning,

Hope your having a good Wednesday morning. The sun is shining bright this morning and looks to be a beautiful day so I hope I can get outside and do some painting I need to get done when it warms up alittle.

Yesterday my daughter and I went and dropped off some stuff at Goodwill and of course we had to go in to see what we could find but all I found was this really cute votive cup and candle for 50 cents. The candle is oatmeal cookies, sugared pralines and blueberry pancakes scented and smells so yummy. Oh well, better than nothing. ( And yes dear daughter, it was worth the 15 minute wait in line for a 50 cent candle!!! LOL)

For years I have been trying to find a good yeast roll recipe and I think I have finally found it. Julie at http://3foldcord.blogspot.com/ posted this recipe on her blog. She said she used Pampered Chef stoneware to bake them in and I have a good collection of that.....

..... so I thought I would give it a try and I loved them and whats even better is my WHOLE family loved them!.........

It's really a simple recipe and doesn't take long to make. I've made these I think 4 times since last week and they have turned out great every time. Thanks so much Julie for a great recipe. (my family thanks you even more!)

Sewing/Craft/Office Room Reveal

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We had a busy but great one. They were predicting rain for pretty much the whole weekend but after a rainy Friday night it cleared up and we had a beautiful Sat. and Sun. I have been busy setting up my sewing/craft/office room for the past week. I still have lots of sorting to do and a few more things I want to add but I wanted to share what I have accomplished so far. This room is small and very hard to take good pictures so please bare with me.

Sewing table with pull out table.....(My hubby built this wonderful 7 foot long table for me and I'm loving it so much)

A old cheap office chair I recovered and added extra foam to the seat..........Plastic storage drawers under sewing table.......Office side of room (I still need to paint my filing cabinet)......Another old office chair (minus the back, it was broken) recovered in a patchwork of fabrics..........Qrazy quilted window topper.........

So thats about it so far. Now do you remember the before........

Sewing on WWW

Hello,

Hope everyone is having a good week. Mine is going better now after some clothes dryer issues. We had to replace a part on it. Boy did I miss being able to pitch our clothes in the dryer. I won't be taking that for granted any more!

It's calling for rain for the next three days and in the 40's. Thank goodness it's not snow like alot of you other blogger's have been getting. I'm certainly not ready for that.

This week I've been busy doing some sewing. I made a slipcover for a chair my daughter picked up from beside the road for me to put in my sewing/craft room. My mom had given me a couple of patchwork quilt tops she had made from scraps of fabric from the dresses she had made for me and my three sisters so I decided to use this to make the slipcover. My sewing room seems to be taking on a kind of vintage/shabby chic feel so it just seemed to fit.

It's fun to look at all the fabrics and try and remember who had dresses from which fabrics.

I also made this bustle skirt for my neice for a Halloween party. I found the instructions @ http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/burlesque_bustle_skirt . I changed it up a bit because she wanted it shorter in the back.

I really enjoyed making this. I used to make my kids Halloween outfits every year and I really miss it.

We worked on my sewing table on Sunday. Hubby has it in my sewing room now with the sides and back on. Just needs the laminate on the top and I will need to stain the sides. Hopefully I'll get to share pics soon.

I also wanted to share this pic of Aiden playing in the mirror. It was just too funny. I think he thought he was looking at another baby.

Watcha Workin on Wed.

Hello,

Hope all is well with everyone and your having a good week. We've been having some really cool weather here and lots of rain and wind over the weekend but the sun is out today and it looks like it will be a beautiful day.

First I want to thank all who left suggestions on my cabinet and sewing/craft room. My hubby is making me a table for my sewing machine and then he decided I needed to go ahead and order the Juki machine that I have been wanting forever. So we've been waiting for it to come in so he could recess it into my sewing table. So now I'm the proud new owner of a Juki TL98Q.

I only got to use it alittle last night but I was so impressed. It's seems to be a very well made machine. So hopefully now we will be able to get the table finished soon. I will definately be putting a shelf over my table and pegboard below that to hold tools. I've got a bookcase also to put all my book in and I have some of those plastic storage drawers that I will be putting under my table to hold fabric.

I haven't worked on my cabinet yet but I have decided I will be doing it in a prim black on the outside and stain on the inside and I'm still not sure about the door's. I'll just have to wait and see what I can do with them.

I picked up a couple of things thrifting the other day. These boxes for $1.00. and this cute pig cutting board for .50 cents.

Also, our family celebrated my grandson's first birthday recently.

This was about the only pic I could get of him sitting still. LOL. Here's the really neat Spongebob cake his mommy made him. Good morning and hope all is well. I thought I would share a few things I've been doing over the past couple of weeks.

I finished up my jewelry box makeover.

Here's what it looks like finished and the before pic.

Much better I think.

I've been working on my Bunny Hill BOM too. Here's a couple that's almost finished.

And a penny rug I finished up.

Now I need some help. I have a couple of project going that I need your suggestions and ideas on.

First is this cabinet hubby brought home that someone was going to pitch.

I'm wanting to put this in my living room. I'm thinking about removing the glass doors, they don't stay closed very well and painting the outside a prim black and using aged oak on the inside.

So what do you think?

Next is my sewing/craft room that I am working on. This is a very small room but I will finally have a room of my own to sew and craft in.

So far I have it painted. Before.................................After.......................... So what are some tips or suggestions you can give me about setting up a sewing/craft room with limited space? What would be some of the most important things you would include? Hubby is off work the next 4 days so I'm hoping we can get this finished up soon.

Birthday Goodies

Hello all,

Just thought I would make a quick post to let you all know I'm still around, like everyone else, just really busy and I haven't taken the time to post. I do check in most day's to see what everybody is up to.

So this is what I've been up to lately........

......canning green beans. I've got 84 quarts so far. I had only planned on doing about 75 but they just keep growing and I hate to see them go to waste. I've still got plenty growing so I think I'll be giving alot of green beans away.

I wanted to share a few things I received for my birthday last month. I have a few of the blue Ball jars and my son found this one that is called a triple L jar because of the way they signed the Ball it looks like there are three L's. I found some neat info at http://www.balljars.net/ on the history of Ball jars if anyone is interested. Oh and my friend gave me the prim little doll.

I also love crocks, so when my hubby was helping move some stuff for a couple we know that are getting ready to move he saw this big crock and asked if it was going to be in the estate sale their going to have and they said yes. Well the next week the guy came over and offered the crock to hubby if he would trim some brush down at their new house (which he would have done anyway because he likes to help them). So of course hubby said its a deal. How cool is that. So here's my new crock. It has #15 stamped on the side.

Also, hubby made the lid from some old oak lumber that his brother was throwing away. I just love it.

And here is a bench my daughter picked up for me at the antique store. (It's not an antique, it's made from pressure treated wood but I still love it and it works great on my porch.)

Watcha Workin on Wednesday

Hello everyone,

I've got a couple of things to share that I've been working on this week. I made this penny rug for my friend and primmed up this table bench with black paint and dark walnut stain. I picked up the friends stitchery at the flea market in town last month.

Here's a close up of the stitchery. When I saw this I thought it was perfect for my friend, we're not that old but we've been friends for almost 20 years.

Here's another penny rug I've got cut out and ready to stitch.

And this is where I'll be spending alot of my time soon. My green beans will be ready to can soon and I hope to can about 75 quarts this year.

And here's a pic of Aiden playing in his pool last week. He's been sick this week. :( I just hate it when kids are sick. I feel so sorry for him.

One of the hardest things........

I've ever done was to was to watch my 19yr old daughter walk into these woods.

She's hiking with her dog and two friends, a section of the Appalachian Trail here in Virginia.

FOR 28 DAYS.

I'm totally fine with this. Really, I am. It's something she's been active in for several years and has hiked many trails here closer to home and is very knowledgable about the trail but it was still very hard on this mama.

We dropped them off around 5:00 Sunday evening and off they went into the woods without looking back. (If only it was that easy for me!)

On a lighter note, my grandma's bday party on Saturday went well even though it rained off and on the whole evening. Lots of food and cousins catching up as we don't get to see each other much. We all had a great time and she was very suprised!

And speaking of grandma's, is there anything like the love you have for your grandchild.......

priceless.............he just melts my heart.

I'm headed outside to find something to keep me busy.

Birthdays and More

Hello and hope everyone has had a great Friday. I've been catching up on reading blogs and several have commented on being in kind of a funk and that's exactly how I've been feeling. I've got tons of stuff to do, remakes, painting, sewing, stitching and more but just can't seem to get in the mood to do anything lately, so I really haven't had anything crafty to share. I sure hope this passes soon because there is lots of stuff that I should be doing. I have been reading more which is something I used to do all the time. My sister gave me several of Nora Roberts books which I have been enjoying. I absolutely loved the Chesapeake Bay series.

Our family has been and will be celebrating lots of birthdays this month. My son, my best friend, my dad, my grandma, my sister and I all have birthdays within 2 weeks of each other. My son Jake, just turned 13 on June 29th.

We celebrated with a dinner at Logan's Steakhouse and also took him to Douthat State Park where we rented boats and had a picinic. It was lots of fun and of course I forgot my camera! Arg.. man was I mad at myself. (Happy Birthday son and hope you had a great time.) My dad just turned 75 years young on July 5th and never stops going. I'd love to know where he gets his energy!

Today is my grandmother's birthday.

She turned 95! We'll be having a suprise party for her tomorrow at my aunts house. All eight of her grandchildren and their families are suppose to be there so it should be alot of fun. (It just amazes me that she has lived 50 years more than I have!) My sister's bday is on the 12th and mines the 13th and of course we'll be 39 again. LOL. Happy Birthday everyone!

I want to share a couple of pics of some things I picked up last week. I found this really neat jewelry box with a music box (that still works) for $3.00 & this little table bench for .50 cents at Goodwill. I thought these would look really good all primmed up with some paint and stain.

My hubby picked up this old trunk at the flea market in town for $4.00. It's dated 1954 and was used to ship hospital beds in. I thought it was pretty neat.

Remodeled Bed/Bathroom

It's been another busy week here but I finally have something to show for all our hard work. We have finished remodeling our bedroom and bath that we had been working on for sometime now. We replaced all the old paneling in the bedroom and bath and replaced it with sheetrock and wallpaper in bedroom and beadboard in bathroom. We also moved some doors and closets and totally redone the whole bathroom with new vanities, comode and shower and put down laminate flooring in both. It's been a long process but well worth it and I'm so glad it's done.

I've always wanted a log cabin so I decided to use log wallpaper on the walls in the bedroom.

Here's my prim curtains I made for my little sitting area where I can sit and stitch, read and blog. This is a chair my aunt gave me awhile back. I would like to make a slipcover for it soon but for now it will do as is.
Here's our twin vanities in the bathroom. (It's really hard to take a good picture of mirrors.) My hubby redone everything in here.
And my curtains I made for the bathroom. I tried to make them so they would kind of match the patchwork quilt on our bed.
And the shower and linen cabinet my hubby made us.

I'm just so happy to have this done and it's so nice to have our old bedroom and bathroom back again.

Yesterday, me and my daughter started painting the bedroom she'll be moving into so I'm hoping to get that done today and have all her stuff moved in by this weekend.

Just Checking In

Well I knew it had been awhile since my last post and then I seen that it had been 3 WEEKS since my last post. I've still been checking in on everyone's blogs, usually in the evenings while hubby is watching tv or early in the morning after everyone goes to work or school. I love reading and looking at all the picture's on everyone's blogs. It's alway so inspiring to see what everybody is up to.

Our weather here has been kind of crazy. We've been having tons of rain. (1 1/2" of rain in 30 minutes is just too much rain!) Hopefully, for my gardens sake, this pattern will break soon. My garden is on a slope so it tends to wash when we get lots of rain. This fall we're going to put some more topsoil on the lower half to build it up some and hopefully this will help. So between the rain and cutting worms only about half of my potatoes will probably make it! So far my tomatoes and beans look okay but not sure about my corn. Oh well, its still early in the summer so who knows what will happen and there's always next year.

On the other hand, my cherry trees seems to be enjoying our weather.

This is the first year we've had any amount of cherries on them. I even made a cherry cobbler.

Not sure I'm loving pitting all those cherries but it was really good. LOL.

I've been so busy outside lately that I haven't been very crafty lately but I did make this purse for my sister's friend.

She wanted it made from camo fabric. Not really to my liking but to each his own I guess. I'm just glad its done. :)

I've also been want to try my hand at punchneedle so I bought a little cheap one at Michael's for under $3.00 to try it out. So far I'm really liking it. I used a free pattern from Betty at http://primitivebettys.blogspot.com/ . I still need to frame it but this is what I've got done so far.

I'm still learning so it's a work in progress but I think maybe now I'll get one of the other needles on the market with the different size needles.

I also stained my new basket I made and hung it on my front door. It's looking a little small to me so I may be changing that out soon for a wreath. And I've also been spending time here...................

He loves to sit here and look up at the leaves in the tree.

How Does Your Garden Grow..........

...........when it 32 degrees at night and mid 50's for the high during the day??? We've had frost here for the past 2 mornings so I've been busy covering up plants at night and hoping for the best. Thankfully everything looks OK and the weather is suppose to be warmer from now on. Thank goodness.

I've been working alot outside these days so not much crafting to share but I did get my 5th BOM A Tisket A Tasket from http://bunnyhill.blogspot.com/ finished, so I'm all caught up now.

Baskets & Family

I've enjoyed reading all the Mother's Day post. Seems like everyone had and good day. We had a nice day here. My family suprised me with a pink dogwood tree. I've been wanting one for some time. We planted it beside our lower deck in hopes that it will grow up to kind of form a canopy over it some day.

We went to my mom's for lunch that afternoon. I snapped a few pics of some of my favorite mom's. (:D)

It was a beautiful day.

Also I wanted to share these goodies I found at Goodwill last Wed. on my day out thrifting.
These 2 little bowls. They were .25 cents each.

These 2 baskets for .25 & .50 cents each. I also picked up these flowers that I still need to transplant. On Monday, I went to my sisters home to make a basket with her. We've been wanting to do this for sometime and finally was able to do it. We took a basket class years ago. She really got into it and has made many baskets for her home, for gifts and to sell. We both made the same basket and it only took a couple hours. We had a good time and I hope we can make another basket soon.

I've also been working on my Bunny Hill BOM. Just finished cutting out block 5. I want to stitch on it tonight while watching American Idol. I've been waiting patiently(well, not so patiently)on my vegetable seeds in the mail that I ordered almost 2 weeks ago. I called last Friday and they said they shipped on Wed. and they still haven't arrived. So hopefully they will come today and we can finish planting the garden this evening before it gets too wet to work in again. They are calling for thunderstorms for the rest of the week here.

Happy Mother's Day Weekend!

Going Thriftin on WWW

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is doing ok this week. I wanted to thank all who commented on my last post about my porch. I really do love my porch too and enjoy it alot. I have 6 rockers on it right now that are needing some paint so that is on my to do list for sometime very soon. I'm getting ready to head out for a day of thrifting and I want to look for some more flowers too but wanted to share a few things I've been working on.

I painted and stained up the wooden bowls I got from GW.

Here they are on a shelf in my living room.

I also primmed up the pineapple cutting board I got at the flea market a couple of weeks ago. I still need to find a home for this.

I worked on this free stitchery that I got from someone's blog but I can't for the life of me remember where. If anybody remembers please leave a comment. I hope to find a frame today to put it in. (edited to add it was Char's pattern at http://charsethman.blogspot.com/. Thanks , Leslie :D)

And of course I've been playing with sweet baby Aiden. He's growing so fast and learning to crawl now. It's hard to believe he's almost 8 months old now.

Hello and happy hump day. Hope all is well with everyone.

Another busy start of the week here. WHERE does time go??? I've got a big box of thriftin goodies just waiting to be redone if I ever find the time to work on them. I did manage one redo. I made a frame out of what was a wall sconce. I had already taken off the little candle holder.

and after...... I put this stitchery I made in it.

We've been having some unseasonably warm weather here in VA for this time of the year. Upper 80's here in the mountains in April is odd but it has cooled down some today and we are expecting showers for the rest of the week and temps in the 60's & 70's so that's more like it. It's hard to stay inside when it's this nice so I find myself outside alot these day's so I've been finding plenty outside to keep me busy. We planted potatoes on Saturday and will be planting the rest of veggies soon but can't rush it because I'm sure we'll still get some frost here before it warms up for good.

I did picked up some hanging fern's for my front porch. They seem to always do well since it's so shady.

We'll, I've got housework to do and I hope to work on a redo before everyone comes home today so I better get moving.

Flea Market Finds

Just a quick little post this morning. Hope everyone's having a nice weekend.

Yesterday I went to our county fair grounds where they were having a flea market. They had a couple last year and they are planning on having one the last Saturday of every month through Fall to raise money for the youth athletic fields there wanting to build in our town. This is what I picked up....

Two wooden scoop sconces, pineapple cutting board, wall basket pegrack, four candle sticks, little jug and a "firkin". I spent $6.50 in all. Can't wait to get started primmin these up. I had a really good time. It was like going to about 20 yard sales all at one place. I'm looking forward to next month's flea market already.

Another thing I wanted to share is a pic of these knitting and crochet needles a neighbor sent me. She can no longer see well enough to use them so she wanted me to have them.

I've always wanted to learn to knit and I was very pleased and thankful to receive them. Now I have no excuse not to learn!

Remakes for Watcha Working on Wed.

Hello everyone.

Hope your having a good week. After our beautiful warm sunny weekend we've had cooler weather and rain the past two days but the weekend is looking good with temps in the upper 70's . (:D)yeahhh!

I've been working on some remakes this week. I finished my little candy dispenser remake that I turned into a light. I found the wooden base at Goodwill awhile back and just now got around to working on it. I painted it a distressed black and added an old plastic candle light that I painted brown and sprinkled with cinnamon then added some pip berries and added the mason jar.

Here it is before and after...........

I also made this little peg board with some rusty nails. I tried out a recipe I found for rust and tried it on some masonry nails and safety pins and it worked pretty good.

And the whole grouping together.........
I had orginally made this peg rack to hang my four seasons sheep stitchery on but it just wasn't working for me so I got out this shelf I had redone awhile back and decided to use it. It's an old Home Interior's shelf that had a light stain on it and a punched tin backboard. It had hearts in between the pegs that I didn't care for so I took the pegs out and covered the hearts with a piece of thin wood, put the pegs back and distressed it up with black paint.

I'm still tweaking the stuff on the shelf and I'm not loving the punched tin copper backboard so I may be remaking a remake. LOL. I've also been stitching some on my wool BOM's but I mashed my thumb on Sunday (****ouch!!!) so that's been kind of slow going but it's feeling better today so I hope to get back on that today.

Garden Ready

It's been a beautiful weekend here and thank goodness because we really needed to get several things done outside. While hubby mowed these................

I got my flower beds all cleaned out. Here's a pic of my Bleeding Heart. It usually gets frosted on before it gets to bloom...................

I also cleaned off my porches some. They will all need to be pressure washed and stained soon but that will take a couple of weekends. Also cleaned out my little building that I like to work on stuff in. Somehow it always gets all cluttered up over the winter.

Hubby and my Dad got our garden plowed and tilled. Now its ready for planting........

It was really nice to be outside and I got to break out my flipflops..:D!

I also got to work on some remakes today but haven't gotten pics yet so I'll share those next time.

Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. We had a nice day visiting with family on Sunday, first at my parents and then at my aunt's. Lots of food and fun. The rainy weather let up on Sunday and we had a pretty day just a little chilly. We also kept our grandson, Aiden, over the weekend. His mom and dad had to make a trip to D.C. on Saturday, so he spent the night with us. Here he is with all his Easter goodies. He's such a good baby...:D

I've been working on my Bunny Hill BOM's this week. Finished two more but forgot to take a pic. Just one more to stitch down and I'll be caught up.

I finished up my free stitcheries from Char at http://charsethman.blogspot.com/ last week and decided to put them in a little quilted wallhanging. At first I couldn't decide if I wanted to frame them in black distressed frames or a wallhanging. After looking I didn't have enough small frames so I got my fabric out and this is what I came up with.

I want to make a peg rack and maybe hang it with some black curtain rings. Seen that somewhere and liked how it looked.

I found this wooden candy dispenser at Goodwill and I hope to work on it this week. I want to paint it black and add a clip light. We'll see how it goes.

We'll I'm off to go shopping with my son, Jake, for some new clothes while he's on spring break. He's 12 (will be 13 end of June) years old and just under 6 feet tall and will not stop GROWING!! LOL. Wish me luck.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

I've been catching up on the free BOM at http://bunnyhill.blogspot.com/ this week. I've gotten all the pieces for blocks 2, 3 & 4 cut out and ready to stitch. I hope to work on them this week while watching tv in the evenings.

I finished up the free seasonal sheep stitcheries from Char at http://charsethman.blogspot.com/ . Not sure what I'm going to do with them but I'm thinking some kind of wallhanging.

Also Ive been working on my seasonal tree. I made some little wool ornies to put on it. I put my little battery tea lights I primmed up at Christmas back on it and I still need to make a few more ornies for each season and maybe some tiny rag garland if I have room on it.

I Love To Sew!

I was sitting with my laptop looking through my photo gallery at some of the stuff I have sewn in the past and it made me realize just how much I love to sew. I started sewing probably about 35 yrs ago when I was about 10. I started out sewing by hand at first then I moved on to the sewing machine. My dad's mom , my Grandma Dixie,(who was just about blind) would help me make doll clothes for all my dolls. She couldn't really see the stitches but she could feel them. This just always amazed me. My Mom and my other Grandma were both seamstress and made many dresses for me and my 3 sisters. Every Easter we would all have new Easter dresses made by my mom to wear to church.

Even after working in a sewing plant on and off for 10 years I still love to sew. (Didn't love the production line but never really minded the sewing.) Over the years what I have sewn has changed just as my life has changed. When my girls were little I would make them doll clothes or dresses for them. They would play while I would sew for hours. Then when my son was little I didn't get to sew much. For some reason he just could not stand for me to sew. Then I babysat for several years, all which were boys, all who also hated for me to sew!lol. Then when I got back into sewing a few years ago ,I started making purses, quilts and home decor stuff. I guess I will always love sewing. I seem to always come back to it.

I wanted to share pics of some things I've made.

Watcha Working on Wednesday

Sorry for the late Wednesday post but my hubby's been on vacation this week so I've mostly been helping him around the house this week. (Everytime I tried to post today he would need me to help.) We've been remodeling our bedroom and bathroom for what seems like forever. When our daughter moved out 1 1/2 yrs ago we moved into her room and we've been working on our old bedroom and bathroom on and off since then. We've been doing all the work ourselves and other stuff (life) keeps getting in the way but hopefully it will be ready to move back into soon. I hope I can show pics of it soon but for now here's a pic of one of the walls.

I've always wanted a log house for forever I guess, but since I don't see this happening we done our walls with log wallpaper. Did I fool you? Hope I can post more pics soon.

I did get my penny rug finished this past weekend. Think I may give this one to my friend. She saw it while I'll was working on it and commented she liked it. I think I like the more muted colors but I thought I would try something different.

I also made some prim eggs from Leslie's tutorial over at http://sweets-mycountryhome.blogspot.com/. I'm working on a seasonal tree I want to decorate for each season. I want to add some lights and make some ornie's for each season.
